Antsanitia Resort and integrated ecotourism

Introducing the villages and their population

Antsanitia Resort is surrounded by three fishing villages: a true haven of peace. The site enjoys remarkable natural and human environment.

The hotel’s ambition is to develop an innovative conception of integrated ecotourism, by setting new standards. It enables co-development and improvement of the villagers’ living conditions through various economic activities related to Antsanitia Resort’s activity. These actions have a direct impact on the three villages around the hotel.

Ethnic life

Discover Malagasy life through our activities .
The village of Antsanitia has stayed very close to ancestral traditions. The local tribe is called Sakalava. Most of the population is fishing and farming. Cattle breeding is a major activity. Cattles are used for plowing, transport and for food. Moreover, breeding cattle is a highly symbolic aspect of the Sakalava’s tribal culture.

Most hotel employees come from the surrounding villages. Training services were provided so as to get as many villagers as possible involved. Thus, the association ADTIA (Association for the Development of Integrated Tourism in Antsanitia & Ampijoroa) was created. For over 4 years now, this association has been organizing training sessions for basic professional skills in Hotellerie and Tourism: housekeeping, room servicing, bar and catering services, etc.

Demography

The following three villages belong to Antsanitia's "Fokontani":

• ANTSANITIA, the largest village: about 250 people
• BELAMOTI, a hamlet of about 50 people
• ANKABOKABE, a hamlet of about 80 to 100 people
